In the Word.
I’ve never read my bible from cover to cover, although I’ve studied the scripture, I’ve never labored over the word as I should have, so that is a change worth making. My personality is such that I don’t like to undertake something if I don’t think I can do it (it’s not a laziness thing – I hate failure), or if I don’t have the bigger picture in mind and I feel confused. I’d say the bible in my life has fallen into the latter category. I was always intimidated by the number of books and the language… when I was young I started with Ezekiel and that was probably a mistake. When I was a small child at home, my parents did bible study for a time and they stopped. Looking back I think that was one of the single biggest mistakes that they made. The devil hates it when people do bible study and will put every distraction under the sun in your way to block your path. Men as spiritual leaders of the household (we are and will be held responsible) need to ensure we are going down the narrow road to Jesus in our personal life and be the example for our children. Don’t think that by the way I’ve been talking that I’m a great example – I’ve made plenty of mistakes and could have done way better. But we can’t use that as an excuse to not do the right thing(s) now.
Anyway, back to my point. The bigger picture of the bible is hard to encapsulate or envision sometimes… its a lot of text with no visuals. I got the “Ultimate Bible Guide” from Amazon and it’s great, it has maps, charts, hierarchies, photo’s, etc. of the bible.. for e.g. the 12 tribes of Israel. It also has a description of the main purpose or direction of each book which is great for someone who needs structure.
I also use Youtube as a resource for learning about God.. I have a fantastic brother in Christ named Pastor John Feakes and he has a YouTube channel here –> https://youtube.com/@theshepherdsvoicewithpasto1315?si=32-UqE0bwJH53MF8.
He has so many playlists and videos with invaluable insights into the word. We are all sinners and when we accept God’s offer of grace and offer back our lives as a living sacrifice for him – we get the best possible life and we get to honor the God who saves.
