Hurt or Heal?

One of the reasons I love living in Blumenort is that its a place where families and individuals can thrive… deceiving or hurting someone is easy; in comparison much like building a house takes enormous cost & effort but burning a house down takes almost nothing.

Where am I going with this? Just a quick glance at social media and anyone can see that people are looking for… fulfillment, some are wondering what their purpose is, or is there a purpose to anything?

I think every person has thought at some point in their life “Why did God put me here?”. Sometimes that question is deafening… what is so special about me that God decided to make me?

I think God gives us a chance, I think he’s betting on us (in a good way). You can call me crazy but I believe one day, each one of us will give an account of what we have done with our life, and more than that – we will be shown, through our decisions; the affect they’ve had on the lives of the people around us; both short term and long term.

Many people don’t understand our predicament here – God doesn’t need to prove himself to us, we need to prove ourselves to him… people quibble about his existence when they should be fearing him and changing their lifestyle. His eternal state isn’t threatened by our conformity to his will – but ours is…

Free will means that we have full control to steer our lives straight into the ditch, or down the narrow road towards Jesus. At this point in the story of humanity, we live in the world as forged by man, not the world as created by God.

My point is that we have a choice, every day when we wake up – to hurt or to heal, with the words we say, actions we take or don’t take. Sometimes we go out of our way to get even, or “show them“, but I don’t want to be that person… God will be the one who determines what happens to the people who choose violence, revenge, or deception – there is nothing we can do that will measure up to his judgement.

My absolute favorite TV character of all time is “Jimmy McGill” from Better Call Saul – watching the guy do life is epic from the perspective of pure entertainment .. but it’s not a life I want to emulate, I want to stand on solid ground, and make solid decisions. The douche bag mindset (what can i get away with, it’s all about me) that pervades online culture holds little sway on me – put others first is what Jesus did and he is the greatest of all men.

I think it’s much more difficult and brave to do things that will heal, then to do the things that will hurt others – I hope that this community chooses to be the people that seek to make peace, even when it costs us something.
