Watchers 2.0

I’m still listening thru the audio book Watchers by Dean Koontz via Audible.

It’s really at a good point in the story, almost as its apex. The vet they visit says that a black lab saved his life from drowning once.

My childhood dog was a black lab, I still think of him quite a bit. I can’t remember as clearly all the times we had but I really miss that dog. I don’t remember who we got him from or anything like that – I just remember that he was my best & closest friend and we were meant for each other.

We had a lot of dogs growing up in the country outside of Grunthal, and I liked all of them, but Brutus was different. I just could feel it, we operated on the same wavelength. We both had the same excitement for the outdoors, exploring, running, hiding, we were 2 peas in a pod.

We would go exploring in the bush, chase animals, sometimes we just go walking together or sitting for a really long time. I would get up in the morning on summer holidays and many times not come back until it was dark outside, then my mom would have 2 pails, and pick all the wood ticks off of us. I’d sometimes have dozens everywhere, I didn’t care – me and Brutus were wild. That’s what I mean, in a way we were so close – I’ve never seen another dog quite like him.

That’s where I learned some homemade bush craft – but when I was a kid you had to be actually smart, not fake smart – there was no AI, no Chatgpt, and no internet. I educated myself on all the trees, berries I could and couldn’t eat, I learned how to walk in the bush, how not to disturb the trees, where to step, how fast I can move without making a sound. Brutus and I spent all day exploring, going further, testing our limits.

When someone tells me that they don’t like dogs, I kinda of look at them like they’re stupid.. 😊… like that’s like telling me you don’t like pep & mush Niakwa pizza with extra sauce.. – you gotta be some kind of crazy to not like pizza and dogs.. lol.

I can’t wait to finish the audiobook this weekend, after that I have to find the next audiobook to listen to.. have a great long weekend!

Jason
