Confusion vs Clarity
I don’t want to write something here that sounds too preachy, but I want to write the truth. Everyone has an opinion, and we base our views sometimes on assumptions that are not as solid as we thought they were.
A modern example of that is flooring – if you have ever installed a laminate floor, you know that your first row has to be straight… if it isn’t, not only will every row be crooked after that, but the further you go – the further your mistake will be amplified, and you will end up with a disaster of a flooring job.
The principle applies to many things – morality, even our lives. Personally I want what I believe, what the truth is, what my morality is – to be more than just my opinion. I’ve often been wrong, mislead, or seeing things as I want them to be, not as they really are. Wouldn’t it be great, if you knew that you could be 100% certain in something, in anything?
That’s what God is – he is the greatest conceivable being, moral perfection, perfect in love. Yet, he is not tolerant of sin, he is not inclusive toward evil, and he does not lie – ever.
When we take Gods word (the Holy Bible) and use it as our straight line, we can believe everything he says, we have an objective moral authority that is more than just someone’s opinion. We have to believe all of Gods word, creation, the flood, everything. We can’t pick and choose what we want to believe and what we don’t.
On Facebook, and deeper on the Internet – you will find someone, even an authority figure that will say anything you want to hear, that will validate any belief – no matter how depraved or stupid it is. But I don’t want that – I want the truth, and I want to be on the side of God, no matter what it costs me, no matter how hard it is, and no matter what anyone else thinks of me. It is very liberating to know that he loves us and wants us to seek him and know him.
